The
project incorporates an office building for ASR
Resource Center, a multi-dimensional NGO involved
in research training, film production, publications
related to
feminism,
women's issues and activism.
The design concept was to create spaces
such that all areas are visually
related to each other. activism.
The unifying feature of the plan is a central courtyard/patio
which provides light, ventilation and enhances the
visual relationship of each space to the other.
Each of the three distinct uses of the building
offices, institute and the hostel were given their
distinct entrances and space yet integrated to provide
flexibility of use by either of the organizations.
The building was covering a total height of 36 feet,
yet not felt. The use of red brick naturally integrates
the building into the well wooded site.
The lower staff quarters were designed as two room walk-up
apartments. The concept was that each quarter would
have the privacy required
for family keeping the built up area within 400 square
foot per unit. Added to this was to keep the cost of
the built up area to Rs. 450 per sq.ft.
The recommended specification adhered to these limitations.
The building was designed in ordinary brick with a fair
face finish.
The brick detailing provided
gives the low cost building an attractive
and maintenance free finish.
